Your skin may suffer from Mineral Oil! Did that catch your attention? Did you know that mineral oil is nothing more than refined crude oil? It is a cheap filler, therefore, you will find it in most skin care products. Mineral Oil is a mixture of refined liquid hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. Really, who wants that on their skin?
Sadly, many products have claims of the healthy benefits from mineral oil. The truth is the molecular structure of mineral oil, is too large to penetrate the pores of the skin and just gives it a false sense of shine and softness. It blocks natural respiration, excretion and absorption of other nutrients. It doesn’t allow any nutrients that may be in that skin care product to enter the body and unfortunately it won’t allow the toxins to escape either.
After using products with this ingredient for a long time, your skin will actually become dry and dehydrated as it affects the skin’s own natural lubrication process. It is difficult to wash off leaving a film over the skin that can result in white heads. Mineral oil clogs the pores and produces blackheads and bumps beneath the surface of the skin. Because it is a derivative of petroleum, no matter how refined it is, it is not compatible with your skin.

A product that is readily available in any store and is relatively cheap – Petroleum Jelly. Health claims are also made about this product. There are a host of other names used to describe this ingredient. A few that may be more recognizable is petrolatum, white mineral oil, lubricating oil, and liquid paraffin. Also beware of baby oil which is nothing more than fragranced mineral oil. Where do babies put their hands and feet? Into their mouths so they are ingesting this product!
Unfortunately, there is now food grade mineral oil. I don’t know about you, but if I am going to use any oil in my food, it will be a healthy food based such as Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Grape Seed Oil and Sesame Oil. Not something that gas and motor oil is derived from. So beware!
The truth of the matter is you must learn to read labels. You have to not only be aware of what you are putting into your body, you must also be careful about what you put on your body. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and to keep it healthy you must use good, quality skin care. There are a lot of good brands out there. My personal favorite is Arbonne, Pure Swiss Skin Care. Their products contain no artificial colors or dyes that can be harmful to the skin and more importantly, NO mineral oil of any kind. Although I no longer sell this product I believe in the many benefits of their skin care line. They are a good company and have been around for about 35 years. There concept is what has inspired me to follow the path I am currently on.
